Your home town Mooretown Jr Flags Atom AE's just had a helluva weekend....and are heading home as Consolation Champs from the Peterborough Liftlock Atom Tournament.
1. Big win on Friday morning against Waterloo. 7-0
2. Nice win on Saturday morning against Listowel AE. 5-4
3. Big fat loss on Saturday afternoon against Muskoka Rep. 7-2
4. Hard fought loss on Sunday morning semi against Dundalk Rep. 0-2
5. Consolation final Sunday afternoon against those dreaded Muskoka Rocks Rep. 3-2
But, these boys formulated a plan, learning from their first game against Muskoka. They knew how to play this opponent, and what to expect.....And they put their plan in action immediately and stuck to it doggedly.....And it freaking worked.
Tournaments are a test. Changes in routine, early (5 am!) alarms, new barns, different teams. But when you hit a bump, and it doesn't implode you, you get stronger. When you decide together that you'll collectively push the boulder up the hill, bloody brilliant things can happen. It's really beautiful when you shut your mouth and just do it too.
The last standing AE team in a sea of Reps, a few players notched their first G of the season, our goalie earned an SO and the final player of the game award went to one of our A's....If there is one thing we know about this team it's that every last one of 'em has to show up in order to win. It takes a freaking village.
This is what team sports is about. All these big fat life lessons learned with relatively small stakes. This is why we do it, right?!
A shout out to these tourney convenors. Organized, on time, well executed and fully stocked with sponsors...It had prestige for sure. I believe 150 teams or so, all Atom level. Everywhere we went people welcomed us and knew why we were in town. These people know what they are doing!
A shout out to our coaches, who aren't afraid to continually work towards the perfect mix of praise and kicking ass.
And lastly, to Coach Dan, we missed you and we are happy to bring this home to and for you. We're collectively big fans of yours, as are our parents.
