Strorm vs The Cougars
Well folks it appears that the team reporter is back from covering the NHL lock out and has sent in some breaking news regarding the Novice Rep.

The Storm Novice rep team returned to the ice on the 6th of January 2013 after taking a break from hockey over Christmas. The Storm traveled to Mt. Brydges to play the Cougars.  The Storm hadn’t played for two weeks and were missing one  their top scorers, Masen Flett, as they attempted to beat the Cougars in the Storm’s second last game of the regular season.

The rust was evident in the Storm’s play as they finished the first period lucky to be down only 2-0 and not registering a shot on net in one of the worst periods of hockey ever played.  This did not go unnoticed by Coach MacDonald who managed to light a fire under the boys as they went into the second period.

The Storm showed more effort in the second period however the team still lacked the polish they had shown before the Christmas break.  The second period ended in a 2-2 tie on 2 unassisted plays. The first goal was scored by LachlanStewart when the Cougars’ defense coughed up the puck in front of the net and Stewart buried it top shelf with a backhand.  The second goal came from ZakCottrelle as he walked into the high slot and slid one 5 hole on the Cougars’goalie.

In the third period the Storm again found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as the Cougars got their 3rd breakaway goal of the game.  The Storm answered back on perhaps the only converted pass of the game as Blake Broumpton fed Graham Armstrong out front who buried the puck to tie things up at 3-3.  The Storm then got the go ahead goal as Konnor Adams kept the puck in at the blue line and Stewart put it towards the net where the Cougars’ goalie was beat 5 hole for the second time.  This time it was Broumpton who put the puck home.  This put the Storm up for good winning the game 4-3. Although the Storm escaped with the win it was obvious that work had to be done to tighten things up with playoffs lurking.

On a brighter note the Storm moved up another rung in the Central division of the Shamrock League as they climbed to 4th overall, ahead of Dorchester.  The Storm also broke through the .500 barrier now sporting a 10-9-2 record with one game to go in the season.

GO STORM GO.
