On the 11th of January the Mooretown Storm Novice team began the OMHA playoffs. The playoff sets up with a round robin that pits the Storm against St. Mary’s, Petrolia, Dorchester and Strathroy in a round robin. The playoffs began with a game in St Mary’s against the Rock. Mooretown played well against St. Mary’s however the Rock’s goaltender was excellent and kept the game to a 3-3 tie.
The Storm and the Rock continued the Series
in Mooretown on the 26th of January 2013. The Rock got an early lead
scoring just five minutes into the game but the Storm kept fighting. The Storm were held off the score board till
4 minutes into the third period when Konner Adams scored with Blake Broumpton
getting the assist. St. Mary’s answered
back 3 minutes later taking a 2-1 lead.
With Just under 5 minutes left in the game the Storm tied the game with
Broumpton scoring on a rebound. Matt
Anderson had passed the puck to Bo Doxdator who put a hard low shot on
net. The Storm deserved better as the
controlled much of the play in the game and outshot the Rock 2-1. The Rock goalie however was once again up to
the task and held the game to a 2-2 tie.
Next up for the Storm was the Petrolia
Oiler’s . Petrolia came out playing a
fast paced aggressive style game, just what you would expect between these two
rivals. The Oiler’s bulged the twine
first scoring about 4 minutes in. The
aggressive play eventually caught up to them as Petrolia were called for 3 back
to back penalties before Lachlan Stewart scored on a wraparound assisted by Mason
Flett and Owen Macdonald. The first period
ended in a 1-1 tie. Mooretown took the
lead about 5 minutes into the second period as Stewart was given credit for the
goal and Flett the assist on a jam play in front of the Oiler’s net. The Oiler’s scored half way through the 3rd
period making it a 2-2 tie. The game
would end tied 2-2.
The Storm had their hands full as the
Strathroy Rockets rolled into Mooretown on the 29th of January 2013. Strathroy has easily
handled the Storm and most of the league this year. Mooretown wasn’t intimidated by the past and
scored the game opener in the first minute of the game. Lachlan Stewart scored
with Mason Flett getting the helper.
Mooretown Scored again with 3 minutes left in the first as Blake
Broumpton scored and Flett and Stewart got assists. Strathroy was however able to get back into
the game as they pulled even at 2-2 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd
period. Finally with just five minutes
to go in the 3rd period the Rockets took the lead for good and
eventually added an empty netter to make the final 4-2. The Storm gave the Rockets all they could handle and proved that they can play with the big
boys of the league.
The Storm are looking forward to traveling
to Strathroy on Monday the 6th of January 2013 to again match up against the Rockets.
