Storm vs Petolia
On Sunday the 10th of February 2013 the Mooretown Storm Novice Rep team continued the round robin portion of the OMHA playoffs.  The Stormtook on the Petrolia Oilers.  In the first game of this home and home series, the Oilers and Storm played a hard fought game that ended in a draw.  The Storm now looked to travel to the unfriendly confines of the Petrolia Greenwood recreation Center and keep their OMHA playoff hopes alive.

The Storm came out of the gate strong but were not rewarded with a goal as the Petrolia goalie was up to the challenge.  The game remained scoreless for the first half of the period before Petrolia broke through with a goal.

Mooretown was not deterred by the Petrolia’s early marker and responded two minutes later as Graham Armstrong got the puck over to Blake Broumpton who fired a hard shot on goal.  Petrolia’s goalie made a pad save but Matty Anderson crashed the net and shovelled the puck home.  The first period came to a close with the score tied 1-1.

The Storm started the second period and quickly found themselves shorthanded.  Petrolia took advantage of this and Petrolia’s #14 found the back of the net for the second time that afternoon to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead.

Petrolia started the third period shorthanded and Mooretown wasted no time capitalizing on the power play.  Lachlan Stewart fed the puck to Mason Flett who ripped a shot on net.  Matty Anderson was again rewarded for going hard to the net as he raised a backhand over the Oiler’s goaltender to tie the game up just eight seconds into the third period.

The Storm continued to play hard.  Joey Edlington was an example of this hard work paying off.  Joey chipped the puck off the boards by the Oiler’s defenseman.  It appeared the puck was chipped too hard and would go for icing but Joey wasn’t going to let that happen.  Joey caught up to the puck about fifteen feet from the net.  Joey then went from his forehand to his backhand and while flying through the air like Bobby Orr put home the game winner.

The Storm held the Oilers off the board and won the game 3-2.
