Go Figure.
Continuing with OMHA playdowns, the team headed into St Marys to face the Rock.

The question going in to the game was whether the zebras could be tamed or whether their tenacity would take a bite out of Mooretown as they have done so much recently.

Jack Joseph carried forward some momentum from yesterday making some big stops as the game got under way. Mooretown seemed to have trouble early on clearing the puck out of the opponent's funky defense zone. Both teams traded penalties early on and it wasn't until the very last second that a team got on the scoreboard. That came courtesy of a blister shot from Doxtator that the goalie couldn't handle allowing Priddle to net the rebound as the buzzer went. Although the goal counted, a zebra seemed hesitant to make the right call but fortunately the good ref sitting on his shoulder persuaded him to do the right thing against the id on the other.

The second period started essentially the same way the first ended, Bo D with a shot from near the blue line but this time, Schouten was there to use his patient hands to slide it by on the empty side of the net. Unfortunately though this time, it did not go unanswered as the Rock cut the gap to just one after putting one by Joseph to end his shutout minutes. Both teams played some tight hockey going back and forth but St Mary's ended up gaining some ground by firing home two goals to take the lead 3-2. Priddle however countered back tying it up to give the team some hope. Of course and what seems to be a troubling trend for Mooretown, the zebras were running amok undisciplined again. Who knows where the zookeeper was but the Storm would feel the brunt of their stampede. Whether it was a hurt player being ignored on the ice or sending our players routinely to the sin bin, it changed the tone of the game after a conversion on a Rock power play to make it a 4-3 game. Compounding that with the fact that the Storm didn't seem to want to play a passing game, it appeared that today was a perfect storm all factors considered including the driving weather.

To say the least, the curse of St Mary's continues for the Mooretown Storm teams.  We send sympathy to the next team that visits. Best of luck, nice knowing you.
