Game #1 Storm vs Saugeen Shores
High winds and blowing snow blew the Storm into Saugeen Shores for their first away tournament of the season.
First game was an early 8am match against the home town Saugeen Shores Storm. Two quick goals by the home team was the wake up call our boys needed. Dylan Ferguson accepted a quick feed and released a hard low shot beating the goalie.
Right off the opening draw Kelby Derrick made a mad dash to the net and got rewarded sliding the puck 5 hole on the goalie.
Going into the third period, Owen McCowan got crafty with the puck going backhand to his forehand and shot top shelf on the goalie. Storm now in the lead. The home town team wouldn't give up. Strong back checking by all, led by Joel McLaughin and Aden Bogaert as well as hard smart defensive plays by Jacob Turner and Xander Blair helped the Storm maintain the lead. Goaltender Caleb Laframboise stood his ground, making timely save after save which kept the Storm in the lead to win their first of the tourney.
Caleb Laframboise named MVP of he game.
Game #2 Storm vs MT. Forest
The boys were pumped coming off their first win of the tournement. Off the opening draw Zak Cottrelle took a hard shot which the goalie let out a small rebound right on Owen McCowan's stick which he buried in the back of the net.
Zak with his foot on the gas received a sweet pass from Kelby Derrick and fired the puck glove side on the goalie. Strong play by Mitchel Brush led to a Mt. Forest penalty. Storm on the power play, Ryan Parkinson made a beauty play roofing the puck. Big Zak still on a mission gathered the puck behind our net and went coast to coast collecting his 2nd of the game. A hard back check by Kelly Johnston led to a penalty shot for Mt Forest. Travis Morningstar way out in front of his crease followed every move the player had and stretched out the pad to stone the shooter and maintained his shut out. Late in the third, Owen McCowan received a flashy pass from Xander Blair and popped his 2nd of the game. Travis got peppered by shots in the third but wasn't about to give his shut out to anyone. Storm win 5-0.
Zak Cottrelle receives MVP of the game.
Game #3 semi final vs Saugeen Shores
After lots of swimming and playing the storm hit the ice Sunday morning vs the home town team.
Storm quickly fell behind with some speedy plays from the home town team. 2-0 at the end of the first. Saugeen not letting up in the 2nd as they add to the score sheet. 3-0 going into the third Storm boys trying to kill off a minor penalty. Owen takes a quick draw and a hard shot on goal which is kicked out by the goalie right to a stretched out Ryan Parkinson's stick, then into the back of the net. Unfortunatly not enough gas in the tank to pull off a win the boys fell short losing 3-1.
Great effort this weekend boys. Coaching staff are all really proud of your effort and team work.
