Flags Red start new year with a win!!
Mooretown Flags Red travelled to Dresden on a slushy night to start the new year. Carter Hawkins opened the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal. Drew Benoit worked the puck behind the net to Connor Murphy who made the play to Carter Hawkins who buried the puck to take the lead.
Flags outshot Dresden 6-2. The second period saw the Flags Red fire 9 shots on the opposing goalie and the hard work finally paid off. With 2:33 left in the period, Carter Hawkins was thrown out of the faceoff circle. Brad Aitchison came in to replace him, won the faceoff to himself, skated into Dresden end and scored Flags second of the game. Flags would out shoot Dresden 9-4 for a two period total of 15-6. Mooretown started third period looking to increase their lead, however Travis Morningstar made beautiful pad save off of a deflection on a penalty kill to keep that two goal lead. Despite outshooting Dresden once again in the third period Dresden closed the lead to one with 6 minutes left in the final period. Some tense moments in the final few minutes but Flags Red were able to hang on to the win. There was plenty of good play by all players. Nolan Johnston keeping the puck in the offensive zone, Noah O Neil playing a good game on defense, Chloe Plain and Seth Klompstra standing in front of the net to screen the goalie, Carter Hawkins good pass to Connor Murphy, Drew Benoit blocking a few shots, Bidaaske Nahdee battling hard along the boards, Thomas Gerrits dangling a player and skating with the puck, Ian making some nice plays on defense, Sebastian Fraser back checking. Aden Boegarts playing well as a forward.
Josh Klompstra battling hard along the boards, Brad Aitchison skating hard to the defensive zone and Travis Morningstar making some good saves. Onward and upward for the the Moortown Flags Red when they battle West Lorne Comets Sunday evening!
