Black Flags Break The Streak With A Thrilling 4-3 Win At Home In Game 1 Against West Lorne
The Mooretown Jr. Flags Black finally won a home game against the West Lorne Comets when it mattered most as they won 4-3 to open the best of three series.

It was exactly the type of game everyone expected with a bit of a twist as the Black Flags never trailed in the contest.  So far, in the four meetings between the teams neither team had been able to win a game on home ice.  It was the West Lorne Comets who kept tying the game to keep it interesting.  Mooretown would be missing Braeden Hunt who is enjoying vacation with his parents in the tropics meaning the lines would be juggled a bit for game 1.  Devin Dewhirst would be moved up to forward with Coltan Beauvais and Dallas Mesko.  While Mackenzie Lumley would centre Hannah MacNeil and Maddie Mesko.  It would be a close checking affair to start as both teams struggled to get the puck to the net through the first 10 minutes.  But with 15.9 seconds left in the first Colton Williamson would go end to end and fire one five hole to make it 1-0 unassisted.  Each team would garner just 4 shots on goal in the first period.  West Lorne would come right back as the second started as they tied the game just 21 seconds in and it would be game on again as the teams would look to get the lead.  Both teams would get some glorious scoring chances as both Colin Gladwish and West Lorne’s goalie made some stellar saves to keep it 1-1.  Dallas Mesko would intercept a pass in the West Lorne Zone and a knuckle ball of a shot would slip between the goalies legs to put Mooretown up 2-1 with 10:22 left in the period.  Zac Clark and Devin Dewhirst would get assists.  Four minutes later west Lorne would again tie the game as Colin Gladwish was in position to make the save but a Mooretown player got a stick on it and it went directly to a West Lorne player who buried it to make it 2-2.    Mooretown would get the only power play of the game with 3:15 left in the second on a hooking call but West Lorne kept the Mooretown power play at bay.   Neither team would score for the remainder of the second and the game would stay tied at 2.  West Lorne would outshoot Mooretown 10-9 in the second.   West Lorne would start to take the play to Mooretown as the Black Flags would struggle to get the puck out at times but Colin Gladwish would find a way to keep it 2-2.  Mooretown would go up 3-2 as Joey Munday streaked to the back post and fired home a cross pass from Lucas Rodey with 7:45 left in the third Zac Clark would garner his second assist of the game.  West Lorne would get a weak one by Gladwish after the hockey Gods exacted a little Karma as a potential goal was waved off just before.  A West Lorne forward would throw a weak back hand towards the net through two defenders that slipped past Gladwish and inside the post to tie the game at 3 with 5:58 remaining.  Lucas Rodey would play the hero as he banged home a puck in front of the net with 2:55 left in the third.  Ryan Nicholson would get the assist.  Coach Gladwish would call a time out to settle the troops in as West Lorne would pull out all the stops to tie the game.  Devin Dewhirst would be hurt while blocking a shot in the dying minutes.  West Lorne would pull the goalie but had a hard time keeping the puck in the offensive zone.  Mooretown would ice the puck and this time the West Lorne coach would call his time out to set up his 6 players for an offensive zone face off.  Mooretown would keep the puck out of harm’s way and would skate away with a hard fought 4-3 win.  West Lorne would out shoot Mooretown 11-4 in the third for a game total of 25-17.  Once again a team effort and timely goals by our role players made the difference in this one.  Game 2 is set for 7:30 in West Lorne.
