Flags Edged Out In Season Opener In West Lorne
The Mooretown Flags opened their season on the road after their home game was cancelled and Fell 1-0 in a spirited back and forth affair in West Lorne

After a few practices the Mooretown Bantam Flags were set to be put to the test as they travelled to West Lorne to kick off the season.  The Game would be delayed as the power kept bumping in West Lorne shutting off the lights in the arena.  So the Flags had plenty of time to ready themselves for the game.  It was West Lorne who would take the play to Mooretown in the first as Colin Gladwish was called on to make a couple of key saves to keep the game scoreless.  Meanwhile the West Lorne goalie was only tested twice in the first with the Flags having a few near misses.  Mooretown would get one power play at the 1:14 mark which would carry over to the second but the Flags were unable to get any sustained pressure. Shots after 1 period of play favored the home squad 7-2.  In the second the Flags seemed to find their legs and had a few near misses while West Lorne kept the D on their toes with some nifty passes.  Mooretown had flashes of some deft puck movement which led to chances that would either glance off a shin pad or a skate.   The lights would go off at about the 8 minute mark of the second causing a delay while the lights warmed back up to full illumination.   Mooretown would get another late power play with just 5 seconds remaining in the middle frame.  Shots on goal were much closer in the second by a margin of 11-10 for West Lorne.  The Comets would escape the penalty at the end of the second as they killed off the remainder of the third but Mooretown did have a couple of quality chances.  West Lorne seemed to rally from the kill and would start to get a little more offensive pressure an continue to get shots on the net while Mooretown again seemed to pass when they should have shot and shot when they should have passed.  The Flags would get one more power play midway through the third but again could not find the back of the net.  West Lorne would finally break the scoreless tie as a pass from the corner found a man out front who was able to put it through Gladwish and the West Lorne faithful erupted in the stands with 2:20 remaining in the game.  Mooretown would battle back and would pull the goalie with under a minute to go but could not get enough pressure in the West Lorne end to tie it up.  The Comets would hold on to a 1-0 victory.  Shots in the third were 11-3 in favor out West Lorne for a game total of 29-15.   The Flags looked to get stronger and more comfortable with each other as the game went on and the coaching staff were satisfied with the number of good chances the team generated.  Also Coach Mark admitted it was his first ever penalty free game of his coaching career.  Mooretown will get a week off before they host Wallaceburg Thanksgiving weekend.
