Novice Girls Gearing up for Woodstock Tournament
Monkton, Ontario

The Girls travelled to Monkton Ontario Saturday to take on the Mitchell Meators for their 4th meeting of the year, going in to the game with a 2-0-1 record against this opponent.  The Meators showed up ready go and potted 3 goals in the 1st period to take an early lead.

In the second period the Meators scored a another to go up 4-0, but then the Lady Flags came to, after their 2 hour trek across Southern Ontario. Just 35 seconds later Avery Hands carried the puck up the ice and hammered one to the back of the Meator’s net. As the Flags geared up though the second this reporter will note some nice little passes from Lennon Smith and Katelyn Archibald to their teammates to move the puck out of the Mooretown zone.

The Flags continued to gain control through the third and build on their momentum even though they were caught with an extra man on the ice being served a bench minor. Kylie Slater, who still claims she did nothing wrong, took one for the team and sat her first career 2 minutes in the box.  This penalty didn’t slow down the Flags as 32 seconds into the shorthanded frame, Birthday Girl Eastyn Potvin made a nice up ice pass to Jaelyn Devine, Devine quickly fed the puck to Addison Macleod who in turn carried the puck in plowing the puck into the net making it 4-2.  Just 17 seconds later Ella Routley made a nice pass to Mackenzie Duncan who scored another to make it 4-3.  The penalty expired with 59 seconds left sending Kylie back into the play. In addition coach Mike pulled Charlie Potvin from the net to try and give  the Flags the edge.  The 6 skaters gave it their all to the buzzer, but were unable to put in a goal for the tie, with resulting in a 4-3 loss.

On Sunday St. Mary’s  was to come to town, but old man winter got in the way of the Rock, and the girls had a practice. This may have worked out well as the girls will get 2 practices in before they travel to Woodstock for their first tournament of the year. With their first game at 8am early Friday morning against Flammboro Falcons, the girls have been instructed to show fans what they have got in the warm up so they are ready to go when the puck drops.

They are scheduled play London later Friday and Woodstock Wild Cats and Brantford Ice Cats on Saturday.

Good Luck Lady Flags, DO YOUR BEST.
