The Novice Lady Flags Win WOGHL Championship
March 23rd Petrolia ON

The Lady Flags won the WOGHL Championship on Wednesday March 23rd on road in Petrolia shutting down the Oilers 2-0 on the night. Goalie Charlie Potvin recorded her 9th shutout of the year putting her best effort forward to help the flags win this one. Scoring was opened up by Avery Hands with 1:43 left in the 1st. Avery skated the puck end to end and potted a beauty after an awesome deke to put the flags ahead by one.

The entire flags team put their best forward on the night and this led to another sweet goal by Mackenzie Duncan which was the result of another end to end skate and a hard shot to the top corner.  The flags held Petrolia off to the end receiving a late game penalty which allowed Petrolia to pull their goalie and go 6 on 4.  The lady flags stayed calm and focused and allowed only 1 shot on net during the 2 man advantage and played until the final buzzer went.

Mackenzie and Avery, our two Major Novice players will be missed next year as they move up to Atom, but they will represent the Lady Flags along with returning center Addison Macleod at the league all-star game in Woodstock in mid April.

What a great year these girls had winning the WOGHL Championship, winning the gold in Woodstock Tournament and took the silver at both the London and Brantford Tournaments.   These Lady Flags were a team right from the start which was the number 1 reason they had such great results.   Not only did they have great results, but many new friendships were made and all players gave it their best to improve their skills each and every week.
