Mooretown played their best back and forth hockey game to
date. Facing the semi-finalist Ice Dogs,
Mooretown generated offense from all directions. Every player seemed to step up putting shots
on net and throwing the body against a huge team. Lahey rung one off the post, Bogaert set up
wingers, Crowley and Peters both had a couple promising rushes. During a penalty kick Nicholson schooled the
opposing team on how to tie the puck up behind the net.
Being down two goals, Duffy read the breakout pass from Booth perfectly to beat the Ice Dog’s defenseman. Under pressure he skated hard down the ice to sneak one through the five hole. For some reason the referees didn’t think pushing down a player from behind on a breakaway warranted a penalty. Several instances where this occurred prevented shots on net to Mooretown’s detriment. The Flags’ perseverance made for the Ice Dogs most difficult win of the preliminary round in the Bill Batten Memorial Tournament.
