For anyone who has been to a U18 game in the last year, whether it be Corunna Giants baseball or Mooretown Jr Flags hockey, you may have heard one liners yelled from the audience.
That prominent voice is the one and only, Kevin! He became known to our local players in August of 2022 at the OBA baseball tournament in St. Thomas. The Corunna Giants U18’s were there playing in their year end tournament. Kevin is a big baseball fan and spends his days at the local ball diamonds watching the game he loves. Kevin sat in the stands behind the ‘umpy’ shouting his famous phrases at the players while encouraging the kids and bringing smiles to the crowd. He turned to the Corunna parents and asked our boys’ names so he could then personalize his calls. The parents called Kevin their good luck charm because the team came out with a win and were able to keep playing the next day at 7am. Who strolled in that morning in bright and cheery while everyone else was weary-eyed!?!? You guessed it, Kevin! He ended up showing up to all the boys’ games that weekend cheering on his new found friends. At the end of the tournament, the players proudly presented him with a Corunna Giants ball hat to thank him for his support.

Some parents kept in touch with Kevin sharing that a core of the baseball boys were also hockey players and we would be in St Thomas and the area for a few games. Kevin was happy to hear that and traded in his Giant’s hat for a Flag’s toque and complimentary jersey that he now wears proudly at Jr Flag’s hockey games. He has made even more friends and continues to cheer and jeer at the games becoming one of the most likeable people in the stands!
‘GET IN THE GOALIE’S KITCHEN AND MAKE SOME HERO SANDWICHES!’
Kevin is also an accomplished artist and talented musician often wanting to ‘play the blues’ on his harmonica for the opponent. He is learning how to use the internet and navigated to his first website, Mooretown Minor Hockey. Kevin proudly shared with us that he is setting a goal to learn how to sign up for Facebook so that he can watch our games on-line.
‘PLAY HOME-EC HOCKEY AND HEM THEM IN THEIR OWN END!’
He has openly admitted that the Corunna and Mooretown parents/ players have graciously treated him like no other team has and he definitely appreciates it. If you see Kevin at a game, make sure you say hello. You will make his day brighter just like he has made our games more enjoyable over the past year. We are lucky to have him not only as a SUPERFAN but also as a friend!
