Nutrition is an important part of sport performance for young athletes, in addition to allowing for optimal growth and development. Macronutrients, micronutrients and fluids in the proper amounts are essential to provide energy for growth and activity. To optimize performance, young athletes need to learn what, when and how to eat and drink before, during and after activity. This information has been drafted by the Sport Nutrition for Athletes and Coaches.
The SNAC committee oversees all aspects of the Coaches Association of Canada sport nutrition program. All SNAC committee members are Registered Dietitians who specialize in sport nutrition. Each of them joins us with several years of experience, many qualifications and a passion for sport.
The primary purpose of the committee is to ensure that accurate, consistent information regarding nutrition is available to Canadian athletes, coaches and parents. It is their goal to:
- increase the awareness in the sport community of the need for appropriate nutrition for training and competition;
- coordinate the development, production and dissemination of material relating to sport nutrition;
- ensure a network of sport nutrition specialists is available for consultation within the sport community in Canada.
