Gold for the Jr. Flags Atom Rep Squad
The Mooretown Junior Flags, Atom Rep team hoisted the 29th Annual Bill Batten Memorial Cup on Sunday!

The team went 5-0-0 over the weekend which began with a 6-1 victory Friday morning vs. Kincardine.  The Atom Jr. Flags continued their strong play with a Friday night 3-0 win over a huge Fort Erie team.  The Atom Rep team secured first place in their division with a 4-0 triumph on Saturday vs Listowel.  With 2 shutouts and consistent team play, lots of passing and unselfish play, the Atom Rep team had the most points of any Atom team.

Sunday is where experiences become memories that last a lifetime.
The Flags flew past Niagara-on-the-Lake 3-1 to send the wolves back to wine country and propel themselves into the finals.  Mooretown took on a very skilled Ingersoll team for the whole nine yards.  A tight first period kept the score even at 0.  The second period showcased a Gaulton goal from Bourdage and J. McLaughlin.  Gary Bennett sealed the win with a shutout in the third.  The Flags won 1-0 to take home the victory, the championship, and the chalice.

Garry Bennett was a rock between the pipes, keeping the biscuit out of the basket.  Reid Whitmarsh, Ethan Rosseel, and Teegan Holmes kept the puck moving the forecheck going as wingers.  Tucker Ward and Holden Petrie kept their heads up and passes crisp.  John McLaughlin and Charlie McLaughlin were responsible, creative, and skills as unselfish centres.  Ashton Gaulton (the captain), Nolan Bourdage, Drew O'Neil, and Liam Hazzard defended the zone showing a willingness to move the puck and shut down many potent offensive talents.  Dillon McCowan was a constant positive team member, cheering on his Flags teammates.

The Flags were guided expertly by their head coach, Jason Bourdage.  Mike McLaughlin and Mark McLaughlin encouraging the flags and focusing them on their steps to victory.  A special shout out to Blair Gaulton, who was unable to be with the team.  Finally, Mark McCabe had put hours of effort into coaching and video feedback for the players.  His efforts paid off as our squad was known during the tournament for smart hockey sense, passing and unselfish play.
