From The Penthouse To The Poor House. Black Flags Fall In Semis
The Mooretown Jr. Flags Black advanced from round robin play with an impressive win only to be thrown back to earth with a 7-0 loss to the South Huron Sabres to bow out of the Tournament

The Mooretown Junior Flags Black were riding high as they left Seaforth to head back to Stratford for dinner, the pool and such after winning 8-0 and finishing second in the Driscoll Pool to move on to the B side.  It was almost an all Tri county Semi Finals As the Petrolia Oilers also finished second in their Pool and would finish first in point out of the 4 second place teams.  Mooretown would finish third.  The Black Flags knew they had a tough task ahead of them as the South Huron Sabres had scored 101 goals for and allowed only 24 goals against in 20 games in the Lambton Middlesex Local League.  The same league as the Ilderton Jets who had vanquished Mooretown in Round Robin play.  Mooretown would get off to a good start as they seemed to keep pace with the Sabres.  But it wouldn’t last long as Joey Munday went to the box for Body Checking and the Sabres would go up a man 3:33 into the game.  Coltan Beauvais would then get called for a 4 minute head contact penalty 31 seconds later and the Black Flags would go down two men for 1:29.  The power play goal would be controversial as Colin Gladwish was up against the post and the ref blew the whistle then skated to the net and signaled it a goal without actually seeing the puck go in.  Munday’s penalty had just 9 seconds left on it meaning Mooretown would still have to kill off the rest of Beauvais penalty.  South Huron would go to the box 51 seconds later and the teams would play 4 on 4.  Neither team would be able to gain any ground with the extra open ice and play would return to 5 on 4 for the Sabres.  12 seconds later South Huron would score their second power play goal to make it 2-0 as they snuck one between Gladwish and the post.  Mooretown would get a power play with 26.3 seconds left in the first but the period would end 2-0 Sabres.  Mooretown was outshot 5-4 in the first. The Black Flags would start the second with the man advantage but could not find a way to beat the Sabres goalie right after the penalty expired South Huron would again score from an odd angle to make it 3-0 and the Black Flags just couldn’t seem to buy a bounce.  Mooretown would get some chances and find themselves back on the power play with 3:23 left in the period.  It would be South Huron that took advantage as the puck was coughed up behind the net and South Huron made it 4-0.  The Wheels fell off of Mooretown as South Huron would score twice more in 43 seconds in the last minute of the seconds putting South Huron up 6-0.  Coach Gladwish called a time out as the Jr. Flags had lost all life including their goal tender.  The final 11 seconds of the second passed without incident.  Shots on goal would actually favor Mooretown 8-4.  Mooretown seemed to be rejuvenated as the third started but just 1:15 in Coltan Beauvais would take another 4 minute head contact penalty.  South Huron would get called 1:12 into the power play and the teams would play 4 on 4.  South Huron would return to the power play but Mooretown held them off the score board until Beauvais’ 4 minutes were up.  Mooretown would garner a few chances and get another power play with 5:39 remaining in the game.  1:29 later Ryan Nicholson would get into a shoving match in the crease and would take a Sabre with him to the box continuing Mooretown’s power play.  South Huron would add their 7th and final goal with 1:41 left on a nice feed out front that left Gladwish out to dry.  Shot on goal in the third were 7-5.  Meaning Mooretown had outshot South Huron 19-14.  Needless to say the numbers did not bode well for the goalie on this day.  The team responded in the third but a few little things that hadn’t cropped up in a long time were very clear in this one.  Mooretown can be proud of their effort throughout the tournament and will hopefully remember the fun the team has away from the rink as much as they remember the games.
