Black Flags Score First Playoff Victory With A 6-1 Win In Wallaceburg
The Mooretown Jr. Flags Black had 6 different scorers on route to a 6-1 win on the road in Wallaceburg to move to 1 and 1 in the post season.

The Black Flags had more than a week to dwell on their first league loss in 11 games as the headed to Wallaceburg to face the Lakers #2 who were also looking to rebound from a loss in the playoff opener 2 weeks ago.  Mooretown would be down two players as Colton Williamson was away on vacation and Maddie Mesko was serving the first of her two game suspension.  So Coltan Beauvais would shift to wing and Mooretown would run 2 centres.  The Game would get off to a rough start as Devin Dewhirst would get called for Body Checking and the Lakers would go on the power play just 16 seconds into the game.  However Mooretown would stymie the Wallaceburg power play and would escape without incident.  Mooretown would start to put the pressure on not allowing the Lakers to get out of their own zone and it finally paid off as Keeley McKegan fired one from the blue line through traffic and found the goalie’s five hole to make it 1-0 Mooretown with 4:37 remaining in the first.  Devin Dewhirst and Braeden Hunt would be credited with assists on the goal. Shortly after Mooretown would be called for a Bench Minor for too many men on the ice which Brody Fitzjohn would serve and the Black Flags penalty kill would go to work again.  Wallaceburg would garner a couple of chances but Colin Gladwish was on his game and would deny those.  Colin did his job well on the day making a couple of great saves when called upon throughout the game.  Mooretown would kill off the second Wallaceburg power play and the first would end 1-0 for the visitors.   In the second Mooretown would extend their lead Lucas Rodey would score from in close with assists to Devin Dewhirst and Joey Munday 1:09 in to make it 2-0.  The teams would settle down and Mooretown would continue its strong fore-check on the Lakers.  The Black Flags would make it 3-0 as Ryan Nicholson outraced two Wallaceburg defenders and fired one home with 7:28 left in the second.  Joey Munday and Brody Fitzjohn would garner the helpers on the tally.  Braeden Hunt would once again fire one from a weird angle that bounced off the goalie and in just 1:31 later to put Mooretown in a commanding 4-0 lead.  Hannah MacNeil and MacKenzie Lumley would get the assists.  Neither team would score anymore in the second.  In the third Mooretown changed up their game plan to work on something new feeling they had a comfortable lead.  But the referee would throw a curve ball at that plan as Dallas Mesko was called for slashing giving Wallaceburg their third power play of the game.  Again the penalty killers and Gladwish would deny the Lakers efforts to retain the 4 goal lead.  Mackenzie Lumley would finish off a nice bit of fore-checking by Brody Fitzjohn who grabbed an assist making it 5-0.  Joey Munday would also get a helper on the goal with 6:28 remaining.  Colin Gladwish’s shut out would come to an end at the 4:47 mark of the third as a man left alone out in front went top shelf to make it 5-1.  The Black Flags would respond 37 seconds later as Brody Fitzjohn hammered home a rebound off of a Zach Clark shot to make the final 6-1.  Joey Munday would head to the box after a Wallaceburg player snowed Colin Gladwish and the defenseman decided to remind him that wasn’t acceptable.  Munday would get 2 for Roughing and 2 for Head Contact meaning Ryan Nicholson would sit for Munday’s extra 2 with 1:43 left in the game.   The game would be curfewed with 10 seconds left in the game and Mooretown would move to 1 and 1 in the post season.  Shots on goal according to Maddie Mesko favored Mooretown 44-22. Honestly it wasn’t the best effort of the season but the team got the job done.  The team worked on their new scheme in the third and it was starting to come together as the period went on.
