Welcome U11 Parents and Players!
My name is Mike Thompson and I am the coach of the U11 Rep team this season. I am looking forward to coaching these players, working with the parents, and having a great season.
Thank you all for participating in the Skills Skates last week. It was a great opportunity for everyone to get back on the ice and prepare for tryouts, without any pressure or evaluations. These skates certainly paid off.
I was happy with the first tryout today. I appreciate that the players came ready to work hard and put forth a full effort.
During these tryouts, in addition to evaluating fundamental skills (skating, shooting, passing, positioning, hockey sense, etc.), I will also be looking for positive behaviors and attitudes, evaluating the level of effort and work ethic, and ensuring that we're building a strong team and not just a group of individuals.
The second tryout (Sept. 8th at 12:40pm) will be similar to the first, a practice-type atmosphere highlighting skills, battle drills and small area games. There will be no releases following the second tryout.
The third tryout (Sept. 10th at 7:40pm) will provide everyone with a chance to showcase their play and understanding of the game with an intersquad exhibition game. Following the game, there will be some releases, which will all be posted on the team site.
The fourth tryout (Sept. 11th at 4:40pm) will be back to an evaluation drills, and the fifth and final tryout (Sept. 12th at 6:10pm) will be an exhibition game vs. Sarnia Sting U11 B/BB team. The final roster will be posted by Friday at 2:00pm.
Throughout the tryouts, I will also be consulting with third party, unbiased evaluators.
Good luck to everyone!
Thank you very much,
Coach Mike
