The Jr. Flags were undefeated at the Regional Silverstick Tournament, allowing only 1 goal all tournament and scoring 18 over 4 games. The Mooretown squad vanquished their arch rival, Petrolia with victories over the green squad in the round robin and the final game. The epic clashes, in front of a packed arena, reminded everyone of Harry Potter conquering Voldemort. The Mooretown faithful qualified for International Silverstick to continue to their hockey quest.
The first game was a shutout with the Flags winning 3-0 against Lambton Shores Predators. The second game renewed the rivalry in the ‘Opening Ceremonies’ game. As is tradition, Petrolia and Mooretown squared off in front of a raucous crown in Petrolia. After years of Petrolia wins in the ‘Opening Ceremonies’ game, Mooretown looked to settle the score, like when Andre the Giant was body slammed by Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania. The Mooretown Flags were up to the challenge, dominating with a 4-0 shutout victory to silence the crowd. This victory sent the Mooretown team to the number one seed.
The semi-final game saw Mooretown skate past the South Kent Lightning 4-0, which setup a championship that renewed the rivalry with Petrolia reminiscent of Michigan vs Ohio State.
Petrolia and Mooretown squared off in the Championship Game in front of a packed arena. Mooretown scored within 10 seconds to silence the crowd, like Batman putting the Joker in his place. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showed that Mooretown had won 6 - 1 to win the Petrolia Regional Silverstick crown. This chapter of the feud was won by Mooretown and like Toronto vs Montreal, the rivalry will continue on into the future.
The team came together as one with a collective goal and enjoyed the tension of the challenge like Yankees vs Red Sox. The goalies for Mooretown, Liam and Paxton, won the defensive players of the tournament trophy. The defence of Callum, Seth, Oden, Graeme, Chase, and Ben rose to the challenge. Ryan, Dillon, Drew, and Barrett were focused on the mission and kept the forecheck nasty. Noal, Nate, Klarke, and Ewan skated with purpose and pugnacity. Jace, Ethan, and Justin flexed their sticks to fire pucks with ferocity. Kyle bet on the team and put it all on ‘red’ for the Mooretown Flags to bring home the win.
The Flags were guided by their coaches Ian, Jeff, Ross, and Shawn. They were steady as they reminded the players to play their own game during the emotions of the games.
