Playoff Preview
The Black Flags will Face 4 opponents home and away with the hope of finishing first or second and earning a spot in the Tricounty Championship finals.  Here is how the teams stack up.  And What's Up with the Octopus???

The Octopus is the team's playoff mascot.
The team will play 8 games 1 home and 1 away against each of the other 4 teams.  Each time the team wins a game they will remove a logo from the Octopus to signifiy the win.  Hopefully there will be no logos left on the Octopus at the end of the playoffs.

The Black Flags finished first overall in the regular season with a 14-4-2 record.  The losses came to the hands of Wallaceburg #2, West Lorne, Mooretown Red and Wallaceburg #1 which was the only team not to make the top 5.  The only team in the top 5 that Mooretown Black beat both games was South Kent Lighting #1.  While the Black Flags finished with the most points they finished 5th in goals for with 74, 3rd in goals against with 45 and 2 in goals for percentage with .622.  Mooretown Black went 8-0-2 in their last 10 games and have only lost in tournament play since Nov. 22nd.

West_Lorne.gifWest Lorne will be first up in the playoffs on home ice.  The Comets finished just 2 points back of Mooretown Black and had an impressive run in the last half of the season that included 6 straight win including 4 shut out wins in a row.  West Lorne went 6-2-2 in their last 10 and ended with a record of 13-5-2.  West Lorne beat Mooretown on home ice 3-2 way back in Oct. while The Black Flags got revenge on the Comets in West Lorne with a 3-2 in December. West Lorne led the league in goals for with 92 , finished second in goals against with 35 and 1st in goals for percentage .724. Needless to say the Black Flags will certainly be put to the test right off the hop.

Wallaceburg.pngThe Wallaceburg Lakers will be the next up for the Black Flags a team that has struggled to end the regular season going 4-4-2 in their last 10 games.  They dealt the last league loss to Mooretown back on Nov 22nd by a score of 3-2 in Mooretown but The Black Flags got their revenge on Jan 2nd with an 11-0 win in Wallaceburg.  The Lakers finished 6 in goals for with 69, 8th in goals against with 78 allowed and 8th in goals for percentage with .469.  The Lakers #2 finished tied with South Kent Lightning 1 for 4th with 24 points 6 behind Mooretown Black.  If Wallaceburg can find their early season form they will contend.

South_Kent.pngMooretown will play back to back home and home games against the South Kent Lightning #1 March 7th and 8th.  South Kent finished tied for 4th with Wallaceburg #2 with 24 points 6 back of The Black Flags with a record of 10-6-4.  Ties hurt South Kent down the stretch sporting a 5-2-3 record in their last 10. South Kent finished 3rd in goals for with 77, 5th in goals against with 60 and 4th in goals for percentage with .562.  Mooretown Black scored a 4-3 win against a short benched Lighting back on Oct. 12th in Mooretown then snuck out a 2-1 win in Blenheim January 3rd.  if there was a dark horse in the bunch the Lightning would be it.  The have proven their right to be in the Championship playoffs and will be a good test for Mooretown Black.

Mooretown.pngThe only games that aren’t scheduled at this point are the Mooretown Black vs Mooretown Red games as the teams wait for more ice times to open up.  Mooretown Red finished 3rd in the league with 25 points sporting a 9-4-7 record, going 4-3-3 in their last 10 games.  The Mooretown teams split their games with Red winning 3-1 on Oct. 18th while Black scored a 6-3 win to end the season on Jan 31st.  Mooretown Red finished 4th in goals for with 75 goals, 6 in goals against with 64 and 5th in goals for percentage with .540.  Nothing stirs the blood like Mooretown vs Mooretown so these will be spirited games between the two who both want to reach the finals at the end of the playoffs.
