Novice Girls Extend Winning Streak to 3
October 4, 2015 Mooretown ON

The Novice Girls had a busy weekend with a home and home series against The South Huron Sabres, starting in Stephen Township on Saturday.  The girls came out flying, with Avery Hands opening up the scoring just 2:47 into the first period.  23 seconds later Kaitlyn Archibald fed a pass to Jaelyn Devine to go ahead by 2.  There was no stopping Devine, as she continued to work hard resulting in a break away and the puck in the back of net putting the score to 3-0 by the end of the first.  Addison Macleod showed her aggression with a goal in the first minute of the second period. Macleod added another in the second and the flags started the third with a 5-0 lead.  Macleod didn’t stop there, taking a pass from Jaelyn Devine and popping another one in at 9:55 of the third, Macleod recorded her first career hat trick on the play.  Avery Hands popped another one in on a pass from Kendell Adams and the lady flags coasted to a 7-0 win. Charlie Potvin continues to demonstrate her cat like reflex’s and recorded her first career shutout on the day.

On Sunday, the Sabres traveled to the Mooretown Sports Complex and the lady flags picked up right where they left off. Just 1:17 into the first, Mackenzie Duncan wired an uncontrollable shot from the point caroming of the stick of the sabres defencemen and into the net to take the early lead.  Midway through the first, from the flags goal line Kylie Slater sent the puck to the top of circle to teammate Jaelyn Devine who broke out of the flags end zone and stick handled through 3 of her opponents, resulting in a break away and a hard shot to the back of the sabres net to go ahead by 2.  31 seconds later Addison Macleod flew down the ice and fired another one past the Sabre’s net minder to put the flags up by 3 at the end of the first.  Macleod opened the scoring in the second at 8:05 with another aggressive play to take a comfortable lead and hold the sabres scoreless through the second period.  In the third, Cool “hands” Avery opened up with 3 goals in 60 seconds to make the score 7-0.  TSN doesn’t know what their missing as these plays would surly make the TSN plays of the week.  Hands stick handled 2 of these beauties from center ice to go in solo and totally undress the sabres net minder.  The third one was a tick, tack and go play set up by Ella Routley and Eastyn Potvin who each recorded an assist on the play. Charlie Potvin was outstanding again in this game, but the sabres managed to trickle one past in a mad scramble in front of the Flags net, midway through the third.  Mackenzie Duncan added the flags final goal with another great shot and the girls extended their winning streak to 3, winning 8-1.  The Novice girls are 3-0 on the season.  This is a light week in the schedule for the girls with only one game on the thanksgiving weekend.  The girls will look to continue their winning streak when they travel to Mitchell to take on the Mitchell Meteors on Saturday October 10th at 3:45pm.
