Novice Girls Gobble Up 4th Straight In Thanksgiving Classic
Mitchell ON October 10, 2015

The Girls Traveled to Mitchell on Saturday to play the Meator's  in what was a very even match up.  The game lived up to all the hype and media coverage around this event.  This game was Nail Bitter, back and forth the entire game with fans from both sides on the edge of their seats hardly containing themselves.

The Flags learned early in the game to utilize their back checking and break out skills and this was led by our defensive line up that included Avery Hands, Mackenzie Duncan, Kendall Adams, Meekah Dewhurst and Eastyn Potvin.  Hands won many foot raises back to minimize shots on net, Duncan was a stay at home defenseman staving of several one on ones and Kendall Adams showed us what shes made of flashing all over the ice to keep the puck away from the flags net.  Dewhurst and E. Potvin were great at moving the puck up ice and holding the line in the offensive zone.

The Flags  offense was stellar as well.  With Coach Mike Macleod giving the day off to cousins Addison Hogan and Ella Routley to attend many family festivities, the Flags were a lean, mean, fighting machine utilizing a 2 line rotation.  Addison Macleod centered wingers Kaeley Derrick and Kylie Slater, while Jaelyn Devine played the middle between Kaitlyn Archibald and Lily Firth.  Later in the first, Addison Macleod fired a long bank pass across the neutral zone that was picked up by Mackenzie Duncan who was able to wire one by the opposing goalie.  Lily Firth stepped up her game big time in this barn burner, with three breakaways in the game, but was stopped by the Meators Net minder who was almost perfect on the day.  Archibald had some great poke checks up the ice to assist in several breakouts on the day and Devine continued to showcase her stick handling talents.  Slater got a taste of success with a breakaway and a shot on net midway through the second and line mate Kaeley Derrick almost popped one in during a scramble in the Mitchell end zone.

The Meators pulled their goalie with 43 seconds remaining in the third, but in true flags fashion the girls worked as a team and calmly held the Meators to no goals on the contest.  Goaltender Charlie Potvin received her second shutout of the season on the day with several amazing stops.

The Flags travel to Ridgetown on Saturday Oct 17th to take on the Kent County Fillies and host the Zorra Fuzion on Sunday.
