Black Flags Scratch Out 5-3 Win Over Wallaceburg 2 To Move Into 2nd
A very hungry Wallaceburg Lakers #2 gave the Mooretown Jr. Flags Black all they could handle but Mooretown escaped with a 5-3 win at home.

After an emotion filled game on Sunday the Mooretown Jr. Flags Black looked to carry momentum into their match up with the Wallaceburg Lakers #2 at home on rink 2 in Mooretown.  Mooretown would have their full team as Colton Williamson returned from vacation and Maddie Mesko returned from her 2 game suspension.  Devin Dewhirst would play after having a fight with a treadmill leaving him with a battered face and a sore wrist.  Dallas Mesko would forget an elbow pad and would decide to sit out until his pad arrived late in the first.  The Black Flags looked sluggish right out of the gate and Wallaceburg took advantage as they would sneak a player behind the defense on a draw in the Flags zone and would make it 1-0 1:36 into the game.  The Black Flags would look disorganized all period long and struggled to get much in the way of forward momentum.  Ryan Nicholson would take a retaliation slashing penalty with 2:33 left in the first and after a few close calls Mooretown would kill it off.  The Black Flags would escape trailing 1-0 after 1 period of play.  The Black Flags would start to get things moving better in the second as Wallaceburg took an early penalty 1:09 into the second.  Mooretown would score quickly as Ryan Nicholson would score 16 seconds into the man advantage off a goal mouth scramble.  Brody Fitzjohn and Colton Williamson would garner the assists.  Shortly after Braeden Hunt would go to the box for tripping with 12:01 left in the second but Wallaceburg would go 0-2 on the man advantage and the score would remain tied at 1-1.  Mooretown still looked unorganized through most of the second but would be given another power play by Wallaceburg with 6:26 remaining in the middle frame.  The Black Flags finally strung some passes together and Ryan Nicholson would score his 5th goal in 2 games and his second of the contest again assisted by Brody Fitzjohn and Joey Munday to make it 2-1 Mooretown.  That is how the second would end.  In the third the passing started to connect for Mooretown and MacKenzie Lumley would give the Black Flags a little breathing room as his pass to Maddie Mesko ended up in her skates and he picked it up and fired one 5 hole to make it 3-1. Maddie and Braeden Hunt would get the assists on the goal.  But the celebration wouldn’t last long and Wallaceburg caught Mooretown pinching and Colin Gladwish would get a piece of the puck with his glove but not enough and Wallaceburg would make it a 1 goal game again just 1:30 later.  Brody Fitzjohn showed how much he has improved to set up the game winner.  As he picked off the puck in the offensive zone and deked the defender out of his jock.  His shot was barely saved by the net minder and landed right on the stick of Braeden Hunt who made no mistake to put Mooretown up 4-2.  The Black Flags then worked an offensive passing play to perfection as Colton Beauvais moved a puck to Devin Dewhirst on the point.  Dewey fired a low hard one and Hannah MacNeil redirected the puck to make it 5-2 Mooretown.  Best Play of the night!  Wallaceburg would take a roughing penalty just under 2 minutes later but this time the power play for Mooretown was denied.  With 2:35 remaining Ryan Nicholson would head to the box again for Body Contact and Wallaceburg would pull their goalie to make it a 6 on 4.  The penalty kill would be scrambly and Wallaceburg would fire one home to close the gap to 5-3.  Wallaceburg would pull the goalie again but would not sustain pressure and Mooretown would skate away with the 5-3 to move into the 2nd place in the standings 1 point ahead of South Kent setting up a huge weekend home and home series against the Lightning.  Hannah MacNeil was the player to pull down the logo on the Octopus for her great one timer.  The team will definitely have to play a better game on Sat and Sun if they hope to stay in the hunt for the top two spots in the playoffs.  Once the passing start working the team saw success.  Colin Gladwish would turn away 22 out of 25 shots in the contest.
