Black Flags Last Minute Heroics Shine Through Again In 3-2 Win Over West Lorne On The Road.
The Mooretown Jr. Flags Black knew they needed a win if they wanted a shot at the Top 2 spots in the Round Robin and came through with a tough fought 3-2 in West Lorne.

After a pair of 1-1 ties against South Kent the Black Flags were still up by one point in the standings with both Mooretown and South Kent having two games left in the post season round robin.  A loss would take Mooretown’s fate out of their hands while a win or a tie would make their final game against Mooretown Red a chance to clinch.  But it was the West Lorne Comets who were 6-1 that would present the challenge for Mooretown.  West Lorne scored a 4-2 win in Mooretown to start the round robin and the Black Flags knew they would have their hands full.  Mooretown had split the regular season series losing at home and winning in West Lorne.  The Black Flags would be without Zac Clark who had been ill since Sunday’s game against South Kent.  Mooretown would get some added incentive as an opposing coach said that Mooretown weren’t good enough to beat West Lorne.  Mooretown would come out flying to start the game and would be rewarded just 36 seconds into the game As Ryan Nicholson collected a rebound off a Lucas Rodey shot to put Mooretown up 1-0.  The Celebration would be short lived as a West Lorne player powered his way to the front of the net and tucked in his own rebound on Colin Gladwish to make it 1-1 just 29 seconds later.  Mooretown would rebound just 30 seconds later as MacKenzie Lumley would pick up a rebound off a Braeden Hunt shot to make it 2-1 with just over a minute and a half gone in the game.  Maddie Mesko would garner an assist on the goal as well. The teams would calm down on both sides of the puck and it would become a tight checking affair with Mooretown putting as much pressure on the fore-check as they could.  Neither team would score for the remainder of the period while the shots on goal would favor Mooretown 9-5.  The second period was more of the same as Mooretown would apply the pressure and West Lorne would counter with a good break out but neither team could score.  Colin Gladwish would be tested by his own Defenseman as Colton Williamson nearly tipped in on Gladwish but the goalie made the last second adjustment.  Shots on goal in the second would once again favor Mooretown 11-6.  West Lorne would tie the game early in the third as a forward split the D and then slid the puck between the pads of Gladwish to make it 2-2 1:11 into the period.  Two minutes later Joey Munday would go to the box for Body Checking giving West Lorne their first power play opportunity of the game.  The Black Flags would kill that penalty off effectively.  West Lorne would go back to the power play as Munday would come to the defense of his defense partner and be sent off for slashing with 7:01 left in the game.  Once again Mooretown would get the job done on the penalty kill. Gladwish would be test twice more in the third as a bouncing puck nearly bounced off a Mooretown player and in and a nice kick save on a screen shot kept the game at 2.  Mooretown would start to play desperation hockey knowing they needed a win.  Meanwhile the Black Flags continued to fire at the West Lorne goalie looking for the go ahead goal.  Again Mooretown would wait until the last possible minutes as offensive zone pressure would finally pay off as Lucan Rodey would fire the puck home with 1:15 remaining.  Brody Fitzjohn and Ryan Nicholson would get the assists.  West Lorne would pull the goalie but Mooretown kept them at bay to score the 3-2 win and more 3 points ahead of South Kent for 2nd.  Shots on goal in the third favored Mooretown 9-3.  Game totals were 29-14 for Mooretown.  Lucas Rodey got to tear the Logo off the Octopus for his game winning goal.  It was a great effort by the entire team who will have little time to recover with their final game of the round robin against Mooretown Red Wednesday night on Rink 2.  A win will guarantee the Black Flags a place in the finals against West Lorne a loss or a tie will leave the door open for South Kent.
