Mooretown Loses Home Opener 4-1 To Wallaceburg
After their first home opener got moved the Mooretown Jr. Flags faced the Wallaceburg Lakers but were unable to mount much offensive pressure falling 4-1.

The Mooretown Jr. Flags were looking for a little home cooking to help them score their first win as they lost 1-0 to start the season on the road.  Mooretown would be missing MacKenzie Lumley and Devin Dewhirst while Brad Atchison continued to heal his broken wrist.  Wallaceburg would pressure Mooretown right from the opening faceoff as Colin Gladwish was tested early and often.  It would take 3:29 for Wallaceburg to strike as a man was left alone in the slot and fired it by Gladwish to make it 1-0.  Mooretown would have trouble getting it out of their end and Ryan Coene would go to the box for Interference with 6:48 left in the opening period.  The Mooretown penalty killers would get the job done allowing 3 shots.  Wallaceburg would make it 2-0 with 4:01 remaining as the defence could not hold of a speedy Wallaceburg forward who forced his way to the front of the net and tucked one by Gladwish to make it 2-0.  Mooretown would go down a man with 2:54 left but again the Penalty kill would get the job done allowing another 3 shots.  Mooretown would hold on for the rest of the first and the period would end 2-0.  Shots on goal favored the visitors 16-2.  The second would see Mooretown start to gain some forward momentum and that led to the first power play of the game for the Jr. Flags.  Mooretown would be stymied with the man advantage but would garner one good chance.  Mooretown would head back to the box with 9:37 left in the second and Ryan Coene would get a glorious shorthanded opportunity.  Then things would get a little feisty and Abe and Anthony Plain would be sent to the box for roughing with one Wallaceburg player.  The teams would play 4 on 4 for just under a minute before Wallaceburg would go back on the power play but Wallaceburg would manage just one shot.  The third goal for Wallaceburg would be controversial as Colin Gladwish made the save but the Ref said his went back into his net with the puck.  The Mooretown protests would go unnoticed and the score would be 3-0 with 4:55 remaining.  Wallaceburg would add a fourth goal on a laser beam from the point that would beat Gladwish through a crowd 1:22 later making it 4-0.  Mooretown would respond before the end of the period as Anthony Plain force a turnover and the puck came off of Abe Plain’s stick right to Ryan Coene who would put it into the open net to make it 4-1 with 3:08 left.  Ryan Coene would find his way to the penalty box with 2:49 left for body checking and Wallaceburg would get a late power play.  Mooretown and Wallaceburg would have offsetting minors with 27.4 seconds left.  The score would remain 4-1 as the second came to an end and the teams went to the dressing room for the flood.  Shots on goal in the second were 14-6 for Wallaceburg for a two period total of 30-8.  Coach Mark Munday would make some line adjustments in the intermission and some new chemistry showed some nice passes and a few scoring opportunities.  However the Wallaceburg Lakers seem to continue throwing pucks to the net keeping Gladwish busy for the final 15 minutes.  Mooretown would give up a 6th power play of the game 4:45 into the 3rd as Colton Williamson would get charged for tripping.  The penalty kill would again keep Wallaceburg at bay before the Lakers would take a tripping penalty of their own giving the teams and abbreviated 4 on 4 session before Mooretown got their 3rd power play of the game. The Jr. Flags would manage one shot with the man advantage.  The score would remain the same throughout the third and the final would be 4-1.  Wallaceburg would fire another 14 shots on Mooretown while the Jr. Flags would manage 3.  Totals for the game were 44 for Wallaceburg and 11 for Mooretown.  Wallaceburg went 0-6 on the power play with 16 shots while Mooretown was 0-3 with 1 shot.
