The Grinch paid a visit to the Mooretown Storm this week and delivered a nasty stomach virus that had a number of the boys home resting. However, that didn't stop the team from completing a home and home with the Petrolia Oilers before the Christmas Break.
Friday night the Storm headed down Country Road 4 for an exhibition game. The team was shorthand in numbers but not in effort as they showed the Oilers that they were there to compete. The team carried a 2-1 lead into the third until a few bad breaks and exhaustion set in. Every member of the Mooretown Tri-county team left everything they had on the ice in Petrolia and should be proud of the hard work and never quit attitude they showed all night.
On Saturday the Oilers came to Mooretown looking to knock Mooretown out of first in the standings. The team welcomed back some healthier members and were ready to defend their home ice. Comments from the Petrolia players fuelled the boys desire and they came out ready to play. Mooretown scored first (to the delight of the sold out crowd) but Petrolia would tie the game a short time later. The Storm forged ahead and the score was 2-1 after one period of play. Mooretown continued to push and demonstrate the hard work and team play that has become a trademark for them. Great puck movement and the will to win carried the boys to a 5-1 victory and further cemented their position in first place.
Both games were well played by both teams and provided fast pace entertaining hockey for all the spectators.
Congratulations to the Mooretown Tri-County Storm Players and Coaches for their hard work and dedication to this point in the season. Enjoy the celebration at the Christmas party tonight but back to work next week in Niagara Falls.
