Deflecting the Comets
Mooretown would battle the West Lorne Comets as 2012 comes to a close.

Play would get underway but the clock wouldn't as the timekeeper seemed to be suffering from a Christmas hangover and was trying to sleep it off. Eventually though, the GO button would be pushed and the seconds started to fall. At the same time, the Storm was mounting its attack.

The boys would come out strong and own the zone against West Lorne. Coene would light the board first with a nice one-timer after a textbook past from Casyn Foster. Hagan would follow suit shortly thereafter with a nice rebound leftover from a Priddle shot. West Lorne was having trouble coralling the Storm who were moving the puck like pros. The Comets however break out and get a chance but Petrie would make a nice pad save to keep the goose-egg on the board for the opponent. MacLean would get a breakaway at the end of the period only to see the buzzer thwart his plans.

Mooretown would strike quickly in the second period as a result from master blaster Turner who would fire one in from the blue line. Although the shot wouldn't buckle the twine, Priddle was there to scoop up the rebound and make it a 3-0 game. Turner would later visit the sinbin but the PKers would do their job and maintain the score. Hagan would notch his second of the game and the momentum was all Mooretowns headed to the final period.

Persistence by the forwards around the boards would pay off for Colby Stewart who would fire a missle into the Comet's net to increase the lead. Mooretown continued to play at a stellar level using all their skills and puck principles learned thoughout the season. The defence core was rock solid while the forwards were pounding the opponent with shots. Ferguson would get one of his own while Coene would get his second of the game with a wraparound that would go five-hole to make it 7-0. Big D Fergie would add another before the buzzer would finish the game off with another shutout for Petrie.

Courtesy of the Hardick's, the team would have a hometown NHLer make an appearance at the conclusion of the game. Dustin Jeffrey of the locked-out Pittsburgh Penguins but currently playing for the KHL Medvescak Zagreb in Croatia would pose on ice with the team and then celebrate the win in the dressing room signing autographs for the starstrucked kids. Thanks Dustin for your time!
