Storm Move Closer To Title With 6-2 In Petrolia Over The Oilers
Mooretown was pressed hard but 3 short handed goals broke a close game open and moved Mooretown into first with a 6-2 win over Petrolia Monday night.

The Mooretown Storm came into Petrolia 1 point behind the Oilers with 1 game in hand so the coach reminded the team that giving the Oilers 2 losses would help erase the loss to Ridgetown.  It was a very tight game right from the drop of the puck and each team had some fabulous chances only to be denied by Goalie Colin Gladwish and his Petrolia counterpart.  Dominic Aliperti would get Mooretown the lead as he scored 1:30 into the game unassisted.  Mooretown would give Petrolia 2 power plays in the first as Anthony Plain would be called for tripping and Dominic Aliperti would get tagged for a body check.  Petrolia would not be able to capitalize and the teams would see the first end with Mooretown up 1-0.  Petrolia would tie things up short handed as they would score a beautiful back door goal with 9:47 left in the second.  The Storm were unable to make anything of their man advantage after the goal.  And follow it up with a penalty of their own as Braeden Hunt would be tagged for a body check with 6:35 remaining.  The penalty killers would get the job done for the third time in the game.  Mooretown would grab the lead with 2:41 left as Aliperti notched his second of the game unassisted to make it 2-1.  Shortly after the penalty kill would be pressed into service again when Josh Raymond was given an interference with 1:50 left in the second.  Petrolia again couldn’t capitalize through the rest of the second and into the third.  Mooretown would get caught with too many men on the ice (actually 1 girl and 6 boys) and would once again be shorthanded early in the third.  But Cameron Crowley would be the hero of the day as he notched his first goal of the season as he picked off and clearing attempt by Petrolia shorthanded and would bury it past the Petrolia goalie to make it 3-1.  Nolan Johnston would garner and assist.  Mooretown would blow the game open with a second shorthanded goal just 19 seconds later as Nolan Johnston would assist Dominic Aliperti to make it 4-1. The Oilers would respond with a power play goal before the too many men penalty was over to make it 4-2.  After that the two teams started to get very “intense”.  Anthony Plain would go to the box for roughing but would take a Petrolia player with him at 11:15.  Josh Raymond would head back to the box for body contact with 9:48 remaining but Aliperti outraced the Oilers defense off the face off in the Storm’s zone and would make it 5-2 with his 4th goal of the game.  The penalty kill would shut down the rest of the power play for Petrolia.  MacKenzie Lumley would be sent to the box for hooking but the power play would not last long for Petrolia as they were called for interference 32 seconds later.  Dallas Mesko would show a little toughness as he got into it with an Oiler who was called for cross checking and the teams would remain 4 on 4.  Colton Williamson would get call for interference and sent to the box as it was becoming a penalty box party with just under 5 minutes to go.  After another scrum near the net Petrolia would receive a 4 minute Verbal abuse of an official after Colton Beauvais protected his goalie.  Beauvais would go to the box for roughing after the whistle.  There was some hockey in between the penalties and Braeden Hunt was rewarded for following up Dominic Aliperti as he knocked in a rebound to make it 6-2 with 2:18 remaining.  In the final minute Petrolia would be assessed a Head contact penalty to put Mooretown on the power play.  Colton Williamson would scuffle with a Petrolia player would was called for checking from behind and given a game misconduct while Williamson was assed a roughing penalty. The clock was run down and the Storm came away with a very big win.  Overall the team played well and defended themselves.  While they spent a lot of time shorthanded throughout the game they made the most of their opportunities.   With two games remaining in the regular season the Storm have a big game Saturday against the Wallaceburg Lakers who have 2 losses with 1 game in hand on Mooretown.

The team also celebrated Colton Williamson's and Team Helper Isaac Alipertis Birthday's after the game.
