Storm vs. The Comets
On Sunday the 21st of October, 2012 the Mooretown Storm Novice rep team took on the West Lorne Comets.  The two teams felt each other out for the first half of the period until Mason Flett centered the puck to a waiting Kelby Derrick and Lachlan Stewart.  Both Stewart and Derrick banged away at the loose puck with Stewart eventually getting credit for the goal. West Lorne answered back crashing the net after Caleb Laframboise made the original save.  The West Lorne team continued to fight for the loose puck putting it past Laframboise to tie the game at 1-1.

The Storm weren’t discouraged and Mason Flett led the rush passing the puck to Owen McCowan.  McCowan was stopped by the West Lorne goaltender but Flett was there to put the rebound home.  As the first period was winding down Graham Armstrong fed Blake Broumpton a breakaway pass that Broumpton was able to finish with a goal.  The first period ended with the Storm leading 3-1.

The second period began well for the Storm with constant pressure in the West Lorne end.  The West Lorne Goaltender was playing extremely well keeping the West Lorne team in the game.  Caleb Laframboise was not to be out done as one of the Comets’ players attempted to go high glove side only to be denied by Laframboise’ new goal glove (money well spent).

Halfway through the second period the Storm found themselves shorthanded.  This didn’t stop the Storm from continuing to pressure.  Konnor Adams controlled the puck at the blue line and fired a hard shot that was stopped with a nice pad save.  Matt Anderson made no mistake with the rebound throwing it into the Comets net for a short handed goal.

With the second period coming to an end, Matt Anderson was breaking out of the Storm end and chipped the puck past the Comets’ defenseman and sprinted down the ice after the loose puck.  Anderson got control of the puck and fed Blake Broumpton in the high slot who fired the puck past the Comets’ net minder.  The second period ended with the Storm leading 5-1.

The West Lorne Comets weren’t about to roll over and came out gunning early in the third period.  The Comets had back to back breakaways to start the periodbut Laframboise stood tall in the Storm net stopping the Comets shots.

The Storm continued to find the net with Owen McCowan making a nice pass from the corner to Joey Edlington who buried it with a one timer.  Edlington wasn’t done, as he followed it up with an end to end rush to score his second.

The line of Kelby Derrick, Mason Flett and Lachlan Stewart went back to work scoring two goals to finish up the scoring for the Storm.  The Comets made one last push up the ice and again tested the glove hand of Laframboise.  Laframboise made the glove save ($) as the buzzer sounded.  The Storm won the Game 9-1.

Storm coach MacDonald had a nuclear melt down in the dressing room after the game while addressing the players.  This, after a 9-1 victory, I pity those kids if they go on a losing streak.
