Eagles can't fly due to Storm
On Friday the 18th of November, 2012 the Mooretown Storm Novice rep team traveled to Watford to take on the East Lambton Eagles.  Mooretown, coming off a 6-2 loss to the undefeated league leading Lambeth Lancers, were eager to get back on the ice.

The Storm had to do some line juggling as their puck distributing left winger,Kelby Derrick, was unable to play due to injury.  With Kelby at the game cheering on his teammates the Storm went to work.

Matty Anderson got the scoring stared just over two minutes in when he ripped a wrist shot over the Eagles goalie after being fed the pass from Masen Flett.  Lachlan Stewart followed this up with a goal of his own about five minutes later.  The Storm continued to work hard and were rewarded as the first period was coming to an end.  Masen Flett moved the puck to defenseman Owen MacDonald.  MacDonald fired a hard shot on net causing the net minder to make a pad save.  Owen McCowan was Johnny-on-the-Spot as he collected the rebound and fired a backhand shot past the Eagles’ goalie.  This ended the first period scoring with the Storm leading 3-0.

The Storm again found the back of the Eagles’ net to start the second period when Matty Anderson launched a long, cross ice pass to a breaking Lachlan Stewart.  Stewart put a beauty deke on the Eagles’ net minder for his second of the game.  The Storm finished off the second period by taking back to back penalties and the Eagles scoring a pair of power play goals.  The second period came to an end with the Storm hanging onto a 4-2 lead.

The Storm got the third period scoring started about four minutes in as Stewart spotted Anderson breaking down the left side.  Anderson got by the Eagles’defenseman and fired a hard shot on net from the top of the circle beating the Eagles goalie.  Anderson wasn’t finished.  Owen McCowen and Joey Edlington were given assists on Anderson’s third of the game.  The Eagles’ goalie had made a nice save on an Edlington shot before Anderson slid the puck into a wide open net.  In the dieing seconds of the game Konner Adams fed Stewart the puck in the high slot.  Stewart ripped the shot top shelf as the game ended to secure a hat trick.   The Storm won the game 7-2.

The Storm moved the puck well as you could see the coaches’ efforts to have the players spread out and move the puck paid off.

Get well soon Kelby.
