The Storm to much for the Lakers
On Saturday the 24th of November, 2012 the Mooretown Storm Novice rep teamtraveled to Wallaceburg to take on the Lakers.

The Storm were again playing without Kelby Derrick as he continues to recover.  With Kelby there cheering on his teammates the Storm took the ice.

The game started and the two teams exchanged penalties but neither was able to make good on the advantage.  Later in the first period the Storm got on the board with Konner Adams knocking down a clearing attempt and firing it low and hard just inside the goal post.  The Storm were not done as Blake Broumpton carried the puck out of the left corner stick handling around a couple players before sliding it past the Lakers net minder with a nice back hand.  The first period ended with the Storm up 2-0.

Wallaceburg started strong in the second period answering back with a goal of their own,  Laframboise made the initial stop but the Lakers’ players were able to locate the rebound and put it home making it a 2-1 hockey game.  The second period was penalty filled with both teams having to kill off 5 on 3 penalties.  The second period ended with the Storm hanging on to a 1 goal lead.

The Storm had not played well in the first 2 periods as there was a lack of effort and the puck movement was terrible with players attempting to carry the puck through the Lakers players instead of passing it to the open man.  Between the 2nd and 3rd periods the Storm coaching staff had obviously had a heart to heart chat with the boys as it was a different team in the 3rd.

The 3rd period got started with Lachlan Stewart breaking down the right wing and scored on a nice shot catching the inside of the goal post.  The Storm were back on the attack when Graham Armstrong put one in behind the Lakers’ tender.  Unfortunately the goal was waved off as the refs indicated they were in the process of blowing their whistle when it went in.

The Storm kept working, Matty Anderson outworked a Lakers’ player on the left boards getting the puck to Stewart who fired a shot on net.  The goalie saved Stewart’s attempt but Joey Edlington was there to put the rebound in.  Halfway through the 3rd period Stewart was back at it as he went hard around the back of the Lakers’ net tucking the puck inside the post for a beauty wrap around.

The Storm were starting to move the puck to the open man and were piling up the scoring chances.  This was evident when Owen McCowan put a pass from the corner on the tape of a waiting Masen Flett.  Flett made no mistake rifling the puck home.  The identical play took place minutes later.  This time it was Anderson feeding a waiting Broumpton who went five hole.  The Storm finished up the scoring with yet another passing play.  Flett set up behind the Lakers’ net and passed the puck to Edlington who banged it in for the Storm’s 8th goal.  The Storm won the game 8-1.
